Doctoral Equivalency Request

This form is only necessary for students who are unsure of their masters-level qualifications for Southern Seminary doctoral programs. Please read the following information and only submit this form if, after reviewing this information, you are still unsure of your qualifications:

• PhD Prospective Students
  • To be considered for enrollment in our Ph.D. program we require the following for applications:
  • An M.Div. or its equivalent (72 credit hours minimum in specific disciplines) for most concentrations (exceptions are listed below):
  • For the PhD concentrations in Christian Apologetics, Christian Philosophy, Christian Ethics, Ethics and Public Theology, and Philosophy and Theological Studies, the 72 hours may consist of an M.A. or equivalent in the field (60 hours minimum in specific disciplines), with the addition of 12 credit hours in biblical languages
  • For the PhD concentrations in Christian Worship, Biblical Counseling and Practical Theology, Leadership, Missions, Evangelism, and World Religions, an M.A. or equivalent in the field (60 hours minimum in specific disciplines) may be acceptable.
  • A minimum master’s level cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale is expected.
• DMin & DEdMin Prospective Students
  • The Billy Graham School offers Doctor of Educational Ministry (D.Ed.Min.) degrees in all concentrations and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degrees in the following concentrations: Biblical Counseling, Black Church Leadership, Christian Ministry, Christian Worship, Church Revitalization, Discipleship and Christian Education, Family Ministry, Global Missions, Leadership, and Urban Ministry.
    • These degrees require a regionally-accredited master’s degree (M.Div., MACE., or M.A.) totaling no fewer than 48 hours, with at least twelve hours in biblical or theological studies and at least twelve hours in leadership, administration, education, or ministry studies, with a GPA of at least a B (3.0).
  • The School of Theology offers a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree in the following concentrations: Applied Theology, Biblical Spirituality, Biblical Theology, Christian Apologetics, Expository Preaching, New Testament Exposition and Old Testament Exposition.
    • These degrees (with the exception of the concentrations specified below) require a regionally-accredited master’s degree (M.Div., MACE., or M.A.) totaling no fewer than 48 hours, with at least twelve hours in biblical or theological studies and at least twelve hours in leadership, administration, education, or ministry
    • A 72 hour Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree is required for the following concentrations: Biblical Theology, Expository Preaching, New Testament Exposition and Old Testament Exposition.
    • The M.Div. degree, or its equivalent, must be from an accredited institution including the study of both Hebrew and Greek, with a GPA of at least a B (3.0).
